Creating Employment Pathways

Creating employment pathways that help low-income people increase their income are critical to supportive housing stability. Most often a housing crisis is triggered by a financial crisis. In the highly unaffordable housing market in Silicon Valley, a job loss, a reduction in work hours, an illness or an unexpected expense can lead to an inability to pay rent, an eviction and make an individual or family homeless. Also, many homeless people are not jobless. They are employed but they do not earn enough to be able to pay the rent. The Santa Clara County Employment Initiative connects eligible low-income individuals to high growth industries like healthcare, building and construction trades and advanced manufacturing; provides them with essential training and assists them in getting living-wage jobs in these industries.
